Fahraj, Iran

FAHRAJ (POP 1000 / ELEV 1274M) is an agricultural village 35km southeast of Yazd.  We visited Fahraj to kill some extra time we had in Iran that was too short to visit else where.   We missed the only Friday (~western Sunday) bus from Yazd to Fahraj so we ended up taking a taxi there. Fortunately, taxi rides are cheap in Iran. The 35km ride costed us less than 4 usd.
Transportation cost is Iran is lowest in Iran than any other countries I have visited. 1-hr bus ride costs less than $1. In 2011, 1-hr costed ~$1 in Peru and Ecqudor, $2 in Colombia, $3 in Chile and Argentina. The bus fares generally reflect the cost of living in South America. However, in Turkey, 1-hr bus ride cost ~ $6, which is as high as in the US.
In the middle of Fahraj's restored historic centre is what may well be the oldest purpose-built mosque in Iran, the Masjed-e Jameh (Jameh Mosque). The mosques internal courtyard, vaulted sanctuary and arcades date from the Sassanid period, although its cylindrical clay minaret is more recent built as a lighthouse for caravans around 400 years ago. In the surrounding area is a ruined castle, a hammam and an ab anbar with four badgirs
We stayed st the Farvardinn Desert Inn Which is a chill-out Accommodation and includes a courtyard, vege garden, and nice atmosphere.
