Dali museum in Figueres, Spain

Figueres is 2 hr train ride north of Barcelona, and its main attraction is the world famous museum of native son, Salvador Dalí . After the Prado in Madrid, it is the most visited museum in all of Spain.

This large museum is mostly devoted to the work of Salvador Dalí, who spent many years in his later life designing and living in it; the museum itself is Dalí's single largest work. The central building was the old town theater, long vacant after being bombed during the Spanish Civil War. I am familiar with Dalí's general artistry yet found visiting here a rewarding experience with new appreciation for the eccentric genius.

Beside the museum, Figueres can be a pleasant place to spend a night or two. The town, much like Girona, is a relaxed alternative to Barcelona with relaxing cafés on side streets, and a compact Old Town core.

I met two ladies from US in the train station so we three toured the town together. We spent most of time in the first building of the museum, then took a much break at a nice restaurant. Wetruly  enjoyed the 3 course lunch on the special Manu. Many restaurants offer a complete lunch meal for a fixed price – "menú del día" – and this often works out as a bargain. Water or wine is commonly included in the price.  I ordered duck with honey and soy sauce which was delicious.

But we were sleepy after the long lunch with wine, and quickly finished the second building of the museum. By the time we were done, there was no time for the Castell de Sant Ferran. They two had problem of buying return tickets with credit cards so only me caught up the 3:50 pm train. I planned to exchange emails with them on the return train and could not do so since we were separately by accident.
