Day trip from Madrid to Toledo

Toledo sits majestically above the the Tagus River. Buses run between Toledo and Madrid's Plaza Elíptica bus station (on the grey Circular metro line) every half hour until 21:30.
The history of Toledo dates back to Roman occupation (Toletum) circa 192BC. The ruins of the Roman circus are still visible just outside the walls of the city. Roman occupation was followed by Visigoth rule, Muslim rule and finally the Reconquest of Toledo in 1085AD. Toledo was the capital of the Spanish empire until the mid 1500's when the royal court moved to Madrid. The winding, cobbled streets of the old town are often crowded with locals and tourists, as well as a surprisingly large number of cars and vans.
Denoted a UNESCO heritage site in 1986, Toledo was a very worthwhile day-trip from Madrid.  I grouped with a Chinese couple on the bus and toured the town together. We had a great time visiting the site and enjoyed a three course lunch special with unlimited red wine in a nice restaurant with a ceiling hung with hundreds of dry pig legs! Jamón Serrano(Serrano ham): Is obtained from the salt meat of the back legs of the pig and air dried.  Spaniards treat their ham very seriously and types and qualities of ham vary in a similar way to wine. I tried Jamón in Barcelona already, so I ordered deer meat which tasted like beef.
I was very impressed by the size and collection in Musei dem Ejercito.
