Mestia is a city in Upper Svaneti, Georgia, that is famous for his Swiss looking mountain range. Svaneti is a high mountain region in Northwestern Georgia, home of the fierce and chivalric Svans. An extraordinary and surreal land of towers, snow, craggy peaks, wine, and dancing; where gold was fleeced, where time has not merely stopped, but rather simply never existed. The entire region is a UNESCO world heritage site.
I took a 5-hr bus ride from Kutaisi to there with 7 other tourists who all came from Poland.
We ended up stayed in three different hostels but organized to share a shuttle service to Ushguli, the highest altitude inhabited point in Europe.
Three of the Polishes coming to Georgia for sightseeing as well as hiking so I plan to hike with them later. Unfortunately, due to schedule conflict, the idea was not realized.
