Kazbegi, Georgia

Kazbegi is a mountain town on the Georgian Military Highway. The town is 10km south of the border with Russia, which is open again for some nationalities.

I and two new friends met at the minibus hiked up to the Gergeti Trinity Church (1,5 hour of climbing) in wind and cold rain. The sun broke out when we hiked down to the town center. So I still got some good views of the spectacular surrounding mountains, including the mighty Mount Kazbeg.

Since the weather forecast for the next day was raining and cold, I took the 5 pm bus back to Tibilisi.

No hiking to the start of the Gergeti Glacier (at 3000 m) or to mount Kazbeg (5033m) with a guide. I decide to hike more in Armenia where the weather is warmer.
